Your Opportunity:

Responsible to the Occupational Therapy Manager. Assumes the role of Lead for the OT Student Service within the Specialized Rehabilitation Outpatient Program - Adults. Includes orientation, mentorship, program planning and evaluation, monitoring of workload, professional practice and liaison with multidisciplinary program teams. Provides occupational therapy assessment, intervention and follow-up for adult outpatients. Assignment and management of student caseloads within the context of an interprofessional and collaborative service delivery model is required. May support team leadership as needed.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of three years' experience working in an adult rehabilitation setting with direct experience in student supervision required. Working knowledge of and experience with a range of specialized adult rehabilitation is required. Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team. Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required. Ability to assist with patient transfers, lift transfers and patient positioning is a necessary component of the role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists (SAOT) are recommended. Experience with patients with neurological conditions is preferred. Evidence of experience in a leadership role is considered an asset. Experience with Connect Care is an asset.
