Nurse Practitioner - Neurology
Your Opportunity:
You will be responsible for providing ongoing medical management for acute neurologic patients at FMC. The anticipated arrangement would see the NP as an active member of one or both inpatient neurology services. As experience grows, there is possibility for direct management of patients via an NP service. You will be supervised directly by an attending neurologist and will be expected to function independently for medical issues, disposition issues and discharge planning. You may also perform consultations in the emergency department or on wards where you will assess patients for neurologic concerns. You will attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary rounds. As a result of these activities there will be considerable exposure to a wide variety of clinical problems in internal medicine and neurology. The NP will provide service Monday to Friday to patients under the neurology service; These patients will be covered by attending and resident coverage evenings and weekends. There is possibility of participating in outpatient lumbar puncture, short term follow up clinics, or general neurology clinics. You will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, residents, medical students, nurses, OT, PT, social workers, transition services, and pharmacists. You will design and participate in QI projects related to adverse events, logistical processes, and inpatient care quality metrics. Responsibilities include: Rounding and ongoing management of neurologic and medical problems. Accepting transfer / admission of new neurologic patients. Discharge of patients, involvement in discharge / transition planning and family meetings. Participation in educational and patient related rounds. Appropriate supervision and support are provided and will begin with a rigorous formal orientation and assessment. Contribution to relevant quality improvement projects.

You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Preferred Qualifications:It is anticipated this will be a highly competitive job posting. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years in neurology.
