Nurse Practitioner-Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Your Opportunity:
The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed advanced practice nurse functioning as an integral part of the division of Gastroenterology (GI), reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Gastroenterology and to the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit. The IBD unit at the University of Calgary represents one of the premier centres in the world recognized for its leadership in clinical care, education, and research as well as championing the role of the IBD NP nationally and internationally. The primary responsibility of the NP is to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis (including ordering and interpretation of tests), intervention (including prescribing of medications), education and appropriate referral management of clients diagnosed with IBD, predominantly Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). The Gastroenterology IBD NP works closely with the multidisciplinary team which includes two other IBD NPs, nurse clinicians, and specialist MDs with a predominant interest in IBD. There are opportunities for the NP to actively participate in leadership, program development, research and clinical teaching activities.
Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 2 years’ recent experience as an NP in a clinical setting and/ or front-line clinical RN work in an acute care setting. Recent clinic experience in General Internal Medicine, Surgical discipline, gastroenterology, endoscopy, acute care or other medicine subspecialty focus is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated commitment to professional development. Prior experience in research, education and quality improvement initiatives is an asset. Additional training in Lab and DI investigations would be an asset.
