Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:The successful candidate must have: Completed graduation from a Canadian Nursing education program (or recognized equivalent). Completed master’s degree in nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice. Current licensure and registration with the College of Registered Nurses Alberta (CRNA) in the Nurse Practitioner Adult Stream. A minimum of 5 years (full time) of related experience as a registered nurse in acute care, and 1-2 years as a NP. Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider certification. Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills. ACLS and TNCC would be an asset. Experience working with general surgical and hepatobiliary patient population will be an asset. Working knowledge of Connect Care and Alberta NetCare. Make patient rounds as appropriate and monitor ongoing care, providing first line care in emergencies. Diagnose and Order appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interpret reports of investigations and analyze information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Prescribe drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies and procedures. The NP will prescribe, manage, and titrate medications inclusive of opioids as required as part of the perioperative care. Prescribe for and manage perioperative conditions within scope.
Preferred Qualifications:Provide follow-up treatment; communicate with clients/families about health findings, diagnoses, and prognoses; support & counsel clients in their personal responses to diseases, disorders, and conditions. Provide transition support into adult care system. Collaborate/consult with general surgery surgeons, anesthesia, residents and specialists and communicate care plans with the health care team. Accept/make referrals from, physicians and other health professionals.
