Nurse Practitioner
Your Opportunity:
The Gastrointestinal (GI) Service is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join their dynamic team at South Health Campus (SHC). SHC is more than just a hospital, it is a campus environment which includes inpatient, outpatient, prevention and public health learning for the community, and wellness services. SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. This NP position will provide frontline clinical care to patients with presentations that include a wide variety of acute and chronic GI and Hepatology conditions. The NP will collaborate with the GI Team, unit based nursing staff and leaders, allied health team members, subspecialists and SHC administration in providing comprehensive, holistic and patient-family centred care. The NP will act as an advocate and will contribute to collaborative inter-professional patient care through advanced clinical practice, leadership, consultations, referrals, education, and research. The NP will perform advanced comprehensive health assessments; order, interpret and perform diagnostic tests; provide urgent input related to complex patients in acute care and clinic areas; communicate assessment findings/diagnoses including outcomes and prognoses; prescribe and distribute pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies; and utilize complex reasoning to safely coordinate and manage care for patients while promoting continuity across the continuum of care. The NP requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships and will demonstrate skills in the areas of organization, critical thinking, conflict resolution, advanced problem solving, interdisciplinary leadership and change management. A passion for caring for patients with medical complexity, and their families, is essential.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 years current RN experience in an internal medicine setting within the last 7 years.
Preferred Qualifications:3 years’ experience in a cardiac or critical care setting within the last 7 years. ACLS certification within the past 2 years or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire. Experience in research, education and quality improvement initiatives. AHS AIW and/or AHS PROSCI certification (or equivalent). Completion of leadership related courses within last 3 years. Progressive nursing leadership experience within last 3 years. Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
