Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office). Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies. Ability to critique development of staff and provide meaningful feedback. Use of nursing process–assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation. Demonstrated leadership and conflict management skills. Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of setting. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Functional understanding of CoAct process. Basic computer skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:3 years of recent experience in an acute general surgical unit required. Preference will be given to those with Oral Max, ENT, bariatric and plastic surgical experience. 1 year of recent (within the last year) charge nurse experience required.
