Completion of Grade 12. Completion of Personal Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate or equivalent. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Qualifications:Strong verbal communication skills that support verbal messages being received and understood. Active listening skills. Congruent non-verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain relationships built on mutual respect, appropriate sensitivity and transparency, empathy, and compassion with patients, families, colleagues, professional and medical staff. Ability to manage emotions and strong feelings, maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances, and to think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Ability to work cooperatively and productively with others. Ability to enhance, support, empower and otherwise increase patient engagement in treatment and change. Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks. An excellent attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications:Health care aide certification Post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services Experience working with persons with addiction and/or mental health issues in a hospital setting
