Minimum Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or similar is required. Chartered Professional Accounting designation is preferred. Other professional accounting designations plus relevant experience may also be considered. Minimum of 8 years of progressive management or leadership responsibility in a financial reporting or auditing role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Strong understanding and demonstrable current working knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards including related accounting practices and policies with the ability to research PSAS. Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and mentoring professional staff.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative working relationships within Finance, the external auditors and other stakeholders as necessary. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Good organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple, sometimes conflicting, assignments to deliver on-time with high quality deliverables. Strong Microsoft Office product skills, specifically Word and Excel. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with independent decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to deal with highly complex and sensitive matters in a professional manner. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals with recent financial reporting experience, specifically Public Sector Accounting Standards. Recent experience as an audit manager, supervisor or equivalent in an audit firm performing complex financial statement public sector audits is preferred. Other Qualifications that would be considered an asset are: Knowledge of NPO tax return preparation (charity returns, T2s). Experience with CPA student mentorship.
