We are looking for an experienced Nurse to join our team as our Unit Manager. Our unit provides care to all patients including Med/Surg; Labour & Delivery; Palliative and SCU. You will play an important role in facilitating effective working relationships within our interdisciplinary setting. You will provide and apply evidence-based knowledge and critical analysis of patient care needs, demonstrating the ability to anticipate and problem solve concerns while initiating effective solutions. You will mentor and act as a clinical resource to the team and proactively take responsibility for maintaining competence through professional development activities.
Description:
Reporting to the Site Manager, the Acute Care Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of the Acute Care department, as well as supporting the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of patient and family centered care. As the Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating change management, promoting team development, teamwork and coordinating staffing and clinical work. You will be responsible for maintaining an effective framework for the operations of patient care services to facilitate the delivery of quality assurance and utilization of information. We are looking for someone who can develop creative approaches to patient care and who demonstrates sound critical thinking and ethical decision making.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, a focus on patient & family centered care and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, change management, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Evidence of initiative, flexibility and creativity. Promote an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety for staff and patients.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year experience in a leadership capacity (i.e. Charge Nurse or Team Lead). Previous management experience in a rural setting with obstetrics preferred.
