Reporting directly to the Director, HIM South Zone and Provincial Services, this leadership role is responsible for guiding two provincial teams, Access and Disclosure and Provincial Speech Recognition, in alignment with AHS’s mission and business strategy. With strong change management skills, you will lead teams through transformation, optimize workflows, and build strategic relationships with stakeholders to drive efficiency across provincial HIM services.
Description:
This role requires expertise in HIM governance, privacy regulations, health information disclosure standards, data security, and change management, alongside an understanding of speech recognition technology. The successful candidate will bring strategic thinking, leadership excellence, and a commitment to enhancing HIM services across Alberta. As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize healthcare and HIM operations, the Manager will play a crucial role in leveraging AI and automation to streamline workflows, enhance data accuracy, and improve decision-making processes. From optimizing speech recognition technology to enhancing access and disclosure processes, AI presents a unique opportunity to elevate operational efficiency while maintaining compliance with provincial HIM standards. A bit more about the teams: The Access and Disclosure team provides release of health information services in alignment with the Health Information Act and other applicable legislation. Provincial Speech Recognition (PSR) – provides training, adoption and optimization of the AHS speech recognition tool, Dragon Medical One (DMO). The team also supports ongoing documentation quality improvement initiatives.

A minimum of bachelor’s degree in health information management or other healthcare or leadership related business degree. Successful completion of a health information management program certified by the Canadian College of Health Information Management and an active certification credential with the Canadian Health Information Management Association. A minimum of 5 years in a Health Informatics/Health Information Management role ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Progressive leadership experience in a health information management related field environment, including 5 years’ experience in a management role in a Health Information Management department or related operations including release of information.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven planning and commissioning skills related to new or modified health information/records management services in new areas/sites. Experience in the implementation of health information management business transformation strategies using technology.
