Maintenance Worker IV
Your Opportunity:
Working independently and reporting to the Facility Manager, the MWIV Shift Engineer in conjunction with Facilities Operations Center provides 24 hour field maintenance and operations to the site. The MWIV monitors and responds to all facility life safety, emergency, mechanical, electrical, architectural and grounds situations carrying out maintenance or repair tasks, and performing housekeeping duties. The position must be familiar with, understand and operate a multitude of different building systems and be familiar with all departmental and site processes and procedures.
Description:
As a Maintenance Worker IV, you will perform a variety of highly skilled and complex maintenance and repair work requiring considerable initiative and judgment in determining the appropriate work methods consistent with standards, regulations and procedures. You will utilize your supervisory and/or maintenance skills and experience to perform preventative maintenance and repair duties on specialized equipment and building control systems, and to provide leadership and direction to other maintenance staff in order to meet operational requirements. In addition, you will perform specialized machine repairs, as well as the maintenance and monitoring of systems and equipment. You may be responsible to resolve escalated operational issues; act as a delegate for the Manager on operational issues; participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff; assisting the design and implementation of preventative maintenance programs; estimate project costs; and liaise with outside agencies and contractors.

Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or technical certification in a related field required or 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines where boiler support is necessary.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must be able to: Performs trouble shooting and makes corrective of repairs or adjustments to resolve environmental problems related to air quality, temperature, and/or humidity. Operate and control building systems through a computerized building management control system. Requires broad knowledge of many different building operating systems. Shall be responsible for independently responding to problem/emergency situations for the following: Telelift/Nurse Call System – between 1600H and 0700H & weekends, stats. Maintenance Service Desk – between 1600H and 0700H & weekends, stats. 24 Hour 7 Day/ Week operation. 12 Hour shifts (06:30-18:30/18:30-06:30). 13 Buildings including approximately 75 mechanical and 35 electrical rooms. Use required equipment and tools related to maintenance repair and testing. Demonstrate technical problem solving abilities and be mechanically inclined. Read blueprints and locate operational data from operating/maintenance manuals. Responsible for proper care and use of equipment and material. Willing to work in all areas of the hospital facility. Communicate clearly in English; verbally and in writing. Work cooperatively with others. Act alone without supervision. Maintain composure and make decisions in emergency situations. Complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff and visitors. Organize workloads and ensure duties are completed in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Grade 12 Diploma. Post-secondary education in a related field and/or technical certification in a related field required. 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate required as per ABSA kW rating guidelines where boiler support is necessary. Willing to upgrade education in a changing environment.
