Maintenance Worker I - Grounds
Your Opportunity:
South Health Campus is looking for a Maintenance Worker 1 with our Grounds team. Under supervision of the maintenance Manager and working Lead, you will perform a variety of maintenance and groundskeeping related duties to make our site SHINE, welcoming and safe for the public and staff alike. This includes but is not limited to: Mow, rake, aerate, edge, water and taking care of our green spaces; garbage collection; planting, weeding and maintaining our gardens and flower beds; trim and prune trees and shrubs; apply fertilizers; perform manual laboring duties associated with Grounds and maintenance; clean, lubricate and perform minor repairs and parts replacement on grounds equipment and machinery. Remove snow and ice from and clean sidewalks, driveways and parking areas. Maintain shop areas in an organized and safe condition. Move equipment and materials. Drive Campus vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Assist other trades as required, in areas pertaining to the duties required. Overtime is not normally required, however, in case of emergency or snow removal operations, Call-in would be made on an as needed basis. Snow removal operations may be scheduled.
Description:
As a Maintenance Worker I, you may perform routine tasks related to grounds keeping and facility maintenance. Working independently and/or as part of team, you may maintain lawns, flowerbeds, trees and shrubs, collect and dispose garbage, remove snow and ice, spread salt and sand, clean mechanical rooms and shop areas, and assist tradespeople and other maintenance staff as needed.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's licence.
Additional Required Qualifications:This position would not be suitable for someone with plant, dust or chemical allergies. Must be able to communicate clearly in English, verbally, and in writing. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be creative, adaptable, and must possess good practical knowledge and well developed analytical and problem-solving skills. Must have a strong commitment to customer service. Must be mechanically inclined, able to use required equipment and tools related to maintenance repair. Must be able to take direction and be able to work with others or alone with minimal supervision. Must enjoy working outdoor, and able to work in inclement weather conditions. Must have the strength and stamina to lift and carry heavy materials, and to perform repetitive tasks involving bending, stretching, walking and kneeling. Must be able to organize workloads and ensure duties are completed in a timely and safe manner. Must utilize personal safety equipment when required. Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license. Experience/knowledge with irrigation systems and repair. Plant experience/knowledge caring of annuals and treed landscape.
Preferred Qualifications:Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Basic work-related experience is an asset and would be provided higher scoring. Candidate with 3-5 years Horticulture/Landscaping experience would be preferred. Previous experience in healthcare setting would be considered an asset. Experience operating and maintenance of motorized equipment such as ride on or walk behind mowers, sweepers, snow removal equipment, Toolcat and Skid steer would be an asset.
