Licensed Practical Nurse - Reg Relief Team Medical

Staff on these units provide inpatient care to acute medical patients. These units foster a strong collaborative team environment with Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health Professionals and Support Workers. These units have begun the process of adopting initiatives that are outlined in the CoACT model of care. In general, each unit targets a specific cohort of patients and a unit specific orientation is required prior to provide shift relief on any of these units. In addition, the LPN staff within the Regularized Relief Team –Medicine will require an annual skills review based on these units he or she supports in addition to completing the Alberta Health Services Annual Compulsory Education (ACE). Reporting to the Manager Access, the LPN within the Regularized Relief Team – Medicine is responsible for providing patient care on a variety of units. The successful candidate should be committed to providing open communication and feedback with respect for colleagues, care providers, patients and families. This position offers the opportunity for both personal and professional development within a variety of teams. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1 year experience (within the last 2 years) in acute care medical nursing. Fluent with Connect Care (EPIC) Current N95 Fit Test preferred and it’s your move. Experience with the following skills: chest tubes, Patient Controlled Analgesia, blood transfusions, Peripherally Inserted Catheter, VAC Therapy. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The LPN will also work as a member of a health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of the patients/clients. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care and should expect to work to their full scope of practice. This position requires the successful candidate to work twelve (12) hour shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Consideration may be given to nursing graduate students who have completed a final focus on an acute care medical unit.
