Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Ability to stand scrubbed from many hours supporting the surgical team. Note: If there are no qualified applicants with the preferred experience, consideration may be given to applicants interested in the Operating Room and in obtaining the Peri-operative Course funded by Alberta Health Services. Successful candidates supported to attend the Peri-Operative course will be required to agree to a return service commitment within the unit of 12 calendar months for internal applicants and 24 months for external candidates. Available to work Evenings, Weekends and On Call and arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when called back to work. Able to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. Speak to the hiring manager who will confirm if, as the successful candidate in this position, you will be restricted to work at only one LTC/DLS site in Alberta.
Preferred Qualifications:The ORT will furthermore be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CLPNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA standards of practice. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapid moving environment. Experience in an acute care medical/surgical unit preferred. Pre-Operative experience an asset.
