Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The regularized relief nurses are integral support to the medicine program. They are expected to support all 14 units in the medicine program with their competent standard nursing practice. They will also be given the opportunity over time to develop their specialized nursing skills in the areas of Charge Nurse, peritoneal dialysis, ventilator care, Intermediary Care and advanced chemotherapy. The successful candidate will be expected to condense their orientation to full time hours for the prevision of buddy shifts.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced unit. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs. and have the endurance to. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Criminal records check with vulnerable sector check for external applicants within the last 90 days. Proficient written and verbal communication skills required. Strong critical thinking skills and experience with team nursing. Preferred Qualifications:2 years acute care experience. Preference will be given to those with completion of Indigenous Awareness learning and other required education, and experience with CoACT elements of care. Connect Care training and experience are also preferred. Applicants must have strong critical thinking skills, and experience working within a team nursing model.
