Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Maternity/Gynecology team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH). MHRH is a full service hospital that provides services to Medicine Hat and surrounding areas in high need areas including Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery, and Mental Health. Reporting to the manager, the LPN provides care within the scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN will be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and position description. The Maternity/Gynecology unit is a 14-bed unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The focus of care is Maternal-Child (antepartum, postpartum women and their newborns), gynecology, and low-risk medical-surgical patients. This position is part of an inter-professional health care team utilizing processes, crucial thinking problem solving and decision-making skills. The LPN accepts responsibility for continuing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs and quality improvement activities. Within the Women’s Health program, MHRH has implemented the patient and family centered care model.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum one year nursing experience obtained within the past 2 years working greater than 0.60 FTE. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job. Strong comprehensive patient assessment and decision making.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those with recent IV therapy experience. Recent Maternity/Gynecology experience (obtained within the last year working). Experience in the care of low-risk medical-surgical patients. Certification(s)/training in relevant specialty area including MoreOB, Breastfeeding education, bladder scanning, and knowledge of postpartum pathway and newborn care. Up to date ROL. Connect Care experience. Experience in antepartum and newborn care an asset.
