Located on the 11th floor of the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), the unit offers almost full 360-degree unobstructed views of downtown Calgary, the river valley and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Unit 112 is a 28-bed cardiac monitored unit that is fast paced, one of a kind unit within Alberta Health Services that provides specialized care that includes the management of acute strokes, brain injuries, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries and other neurological issues. The hyperacute neuroscience/neurosurgery LPN works to full scope of practice providing nursing care for patients and families. This is done within a team-forward environment that prides itself in the multidisciplinary collaboration amongst NP’s, Nurse Clinicians, LPN’s, HCA’s, MD’s, OT, PT, and SW, dietician and pharmacist. As such, a strong commitment to teamwork is reflected in our daily practice which relies on excellent inter-professional communication. Unit 112 provides advancement opportunities including: hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, vasoactive medication administration, specialize care required during insertion and/or management external ventricular drains, acute management of patients experiencing a stroke, spinal cord injuries and/or other acute neurological issues. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduation from a recognized nursing education program.
Preferred Qualifications:One to two years’ experience in an acute post-operative / surgical setting. Previous neuroscience nursing experience. Previous Neurosurgical nursing experience. Previous experience orientating new staff or preceptoring students. EKG/cardiac monitoring experience.
