As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. You provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. You will have the opportunity to work other shifts in order to be a strong advocate for the patient as you will prepare the appeal process for patient certification on an AMH review panel board. You will develop your group facilitation skills as all nursing staff within AMH are responsible for facilitating and delivering group content to the patients. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:4 months of Addiction and Mental Health experience within the last 3 years.
Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques preferred. Knowledge of how to intervene is an asset. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, Violence risk.
