Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:One year of acute care experience and/or training within the past 2 years. (Students with preceptorship or practicum experience in acute care will be considered equivalent). Acute care is defined as experience and/or training on an inpatient medical or surgical or emergency unit performing patient assessments, interventions, administering intravenous and oral medications, and providing patient education. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching above shoulder, and able to lift a minimum of 15 kg. Must be assist with safe patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Able to work in a fast paced and unpredictable environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Must be competent in providing care to patients newly diagnosed through the continuum of end of life. Proficient written and verbal communication skills for safe patient/family care and interdisciplinary collaboration. Be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Exhibit strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience caring for oncology/hematology patients. Experience in administering systemic treatment. Experience working with elements of CoAct and collaborative care. Experience with administering blood products and derivatives, and wound care. Palliative certification and/or experience. Experience with Peripheral and Central Venous Access Devices.
