Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Education & Quality, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) supports Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) Program. The position will be at or out of University of Alberta Hospital but will require covering other sites with flexible hours. The CNE leads the planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of the education activities for AKC-N staff to support clinical competencies, organizational standards/practices/guidelines in collaboration with the leadership team. Using adult learning principles, the CNE develops, and delivers educational activities for orientation, mandatory education, clinical competencies, and changes in policies, procedures and protocols as well as other practice support documents to promote clinical competence for staff. The CNE determines appropriate education based on identified needs which includes legislation, continued competencies, quality improvement, strategic plans and objectives as well as organizational needs. The CNE may also participate in the provision of direct and/or indirect patient care for the purpose of teaching staff. The CNE functions as a change agent and resource to staff for professional development and clinical competence in the program area. The CNE collaborates with the leadership team around quality improvement strategies and facilitates appropriate educational activities and process changes. The CNE collaborates with the health care team at the unit, department, site, zone and provincial level as necessary.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Minimum 3 years experience in Hemodialysis required. Minimum 3 years recent experience in acute care setting (within the last 5 years). Teaching/facilitation skills in large group settings utilizing knowledge of adult learning principles. Change management knowledge and experience required. Time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize competing demands. Leadership skills, including excellent analytical skills, a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and ability to build confidence in others. Effective communicator with strong organization skills and commitment to providing quality services. Knowledge of practice-related education resources to support staff. Skilled in retrieval and appraisal of evidence from a variety of credible sources to provide current accurate information. Intermediate proficiency in keyboarding skills, MS Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:Current or recent experience (within the last 2 years) as hemodialysis clinical nurse educator. Trained in caring/managing pediatric patients (within the last 2 years). Trained in Pediatric HD machine (Fresenius 2008K). Certificate in Nephrology (CNA) preferred. Involvement in developing/delivering and implementing educational programs or initiatives an asset. Previous assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to staff learning requirements an asset.
