Under the direction of the Manager, the Instructor – Labour/Delivery/Antepartum/Postpartum Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is an expert, self-motivated clinician who exhibits leadership qualities. The CNE is responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for perinatal nursing and support staff. This includes, but is not limited to: orientation, compulsory education programs, clinical development and continuing education. The CNE is responsible for delivery of programs based on identified needs which include legislation/accreditation, continued competency development, quality and safety improvement, strategic planning and objectives related to organizational and operational needs. The incumbent works collaboratively with counterparts at other Alberta Health Services acute care sites. The work includes orientation, clinical development and continuing education focusing primarily on the care of hospitalized antepartum, laboring and postpartum women and their newborn infants. The incumbent participates in review and development of regional clinical policies and practice guidelines.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:As a practicing professional, the CNE is expected to work collaboratively with other CNEs as well as other CNEs from Women’s Health Departments across Central Zone and within Alberta Health Services. 5 years recent (within the last 2 years) experience within a Labour and Delivery and postpartum setting is required. Fetal Health Surveillance Course Required. NRP Provider course required. Experience in planning and implementation of orientation and education programs.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous OR experience within a Labour and Delivery setting preferred. Labour and Delivery and Postpartum experience as a CNE preferred. Fetal Health Surveillance Instructor certification preferred. NRP Instructor certification preferred. WISE course preferred.
