Your Opportunity:
The successful applicant will become a member of a multi-person Furnishings & Equipment team assigned to new and existing Major and Minor Capital projects. This posting is for an 18+ month temporary, full time position in the Furnishings & Equipment, Capital Projects department within the Capital Management portfolio of Health Shared Services.

Reporting to Manager under the direction of an F&E Team Lead supervising your day-to-day work, the Healthcare Equipment Specialist (HES) is responsible for facilitating, the clinical and non-clinical equipment for capital & minor projects and initiatives as assigned. HES provides technical, clinical and application expertise, project management and budgetary management in the planning and acquisition of clinical and non-clinical equipment. HES is responsible for creation of technical cut sheets, project documentation, developing & maintaining detailed equipment lists and supporting internal and external process approvals. HES will develop detailed technical specifications and procurement strategies for the tender & procurement of the required clinical and/or non-clinical equipment. Responsibilities also include attending all programming & design related project meetings, initiate & maintain ongoing coordination and consultation with project managers from the Government of Alberta (GOA), Ministries, Agencies, PHC’s and Service Delivery Providers’ physicians, clinicians, external consultants, engineers and architects throughout entire project lifecycle. HES provides ongoing communication to the project team and stakeholders as well as continual engagement in the equipment delivery, installation and commissioning process. HES also provides ongoing support, recommendations, and reporting as required for all assigned projects and other assigned department related work.

A clinical background as a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Respiratory Therapist (RT) or a strong technical background with significant hospital experience as a Biomedical Technologist, Biomedical Engineer or Clinical Engineer is required. A minimum of 2 to 5 years acute care hospital experience is required. The incumbent needs to be comfortable working with clinical & non-clinical staff, senior management, physicians, vendors, external consultants, architects, AHS executive, Government of Alberta Ministry staff and others as required. The prospective HES must have a solid understanding of clinical & medical terminology as well as a strong knowledge of clinical patient care practice within a healthcare environment. They require the ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specification documents. They also require a general understanding of health facilities operation, design and construction practices as well as proven technical knowledge relating to clinical & diagnostic patient care equipment.
Additional Required Qualifications:This is a professional role in a fast paced, high project volume environment, requiring independent work, tracking and reporting on progress, managing multiple project schedules and deliverables. A background in construction management, equipment planning, project management as well as a formal PMP designation is a definite asset. Strong work ethic and positive attitude in addition to a proven ability to lead by example and motivate a project team is required. This position is required to travel to healthcare projects throughout the province. Safety training is required to access construction sites, as well as approved personal protective equipment (PPE). The successful candidate must: Perform effectively in a high pressure, project-based work environment with frequent workload changes and competing demands / deadlines. Perform repetitive work according to set procedures. Perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. Adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Set priorities and prioritize assignments which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and project deliverables to complete heavy workload within established time frames. Work independently and follow through on assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:A candidate who is comfortable working in a high pressured, ever-changing work environment with strong critical thinking skills, who welcomes social interaction with colleagues is preferred. Some travel throughout the province including overnight for project deliverables, teambuilding, staff meetings and other day to day activities is required with this position. Travel in winter driving conditions included.
