An exciting opportunity exists to grow and strengthen your skills and work at your full scope of practice as a Health Care Aide within a collaborative team at the Rockyview General Hospital. Unit 61A is a general medical unit. The Health Care Aide (HCA) is responsible for providing direct care to patients on Unit 61A by way of assisting patients in their activities of daily living. You will ensure both the direct comfort and safety of the patient and provide indirect services to support the overall provision of care. You will work within a CoAct model of care and work in collaboration with the care hub team in your assigned area. You will work under the supervision of the RN, LPN or other licensed healthcare profession and will be expected to maintain a high standard of quality care, participate in quality improvement activities, and integrate the principles of patient and family centered care in your practice. You will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and reliability; be self-directed; show accountability in own practice; initiative; problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships; time management and prioritization skills; and promote and foster a positive team environment following the AHS Code of Conduct and Values. Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:As a condition of employment at AHS, you must be enrolled in the Government of Alberta-Health Care Aide Directory and provide evidence of your enrollment at time of hire and annually thereafter. For more information on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. In addition, you must meet Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements and provide evidence at time of hire (see above). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart & Stroke. Minimum 1 year experience as a Health Care Aide in an acute medical nursing unit within the last 3 years. Proficiency in English verbal, written, read communication skills Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to walking, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods of the shift. Safe transferring of adult patients of varying mobility, transporting supplies and equipment. Demonstrates and meets infection prevention and control requirements by following standard practice for all patients, including proper handwashing technique.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in an acute medical nursing unit within the last 3 years. Familiarity with CoAct. HCA Documentation and experience with Connect Care charting. Completion of HCA communication course. It’s Your Move or other related safe patient handling training. See the Person and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within the last 2 years. A demonstrated ability to work with seniors/patients with reactive behaviors and cognitively impaired patients.
