Health Care Aide
Your Opportunity:
As a health care aide on 4E2 you will work in a clinic/day unit setting. You will be helping with heights, weights, vitals, stocking, bed cleans, transportation of patients, going to lab, etc. As a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide - Pediatric Oncology/Hematology is responsible for providing patient care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The Health Care Aide is responsible for providing personal care by supporting activities of daily living, assisting in patient assessments and procedures, providing comfort measures to patients and their families, as well as simple charting in patient’s records. Other duties include but are not limited to: portering, delivering specimens to labs, ordering supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, monitoring unit tidiness including equipment in storage rooms. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and lifting. The role may require provision of constant care. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers as well as all members of the health care team. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The successful applicant will be primarily trained on 4E3 with cross-training to our day ward unit 4E2, with the expectation to provide coverage on both units as needed.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:BCLS required. Must be enrolled in the Alberta Ministry of Health's Health Care Aide Directory. Communication skills. Organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Pediatric experience.
