Completion of master's degree in Genetic Counselling. Active or eligible for registration with Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC).
Additional Qualifications:Advanced knowledge of genetic disorders including the implications of diagnosis, prognosis, inheritance, testing and management. Competencies and confidence in providing 1:1 and phone genetic counselling sessions, completing dictations and ability to effectively meet the clinical demands. Must have the ability to work as an effective team member while at the same time, able to work independently. Experience, knowledge and sensitivity to psychosocial issues unique to the field, ethical issues and dilemmas, knowledge and identification of appropriate resources. A current police security clearance including vulnerability sector check is required. Clinical scheduling and tracking systems are used. Specific systems used are Clinibase, eScheduler; Access Microsoft and Netcare.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum two (2) years genetic counselling experience and extensive knowledge and confidence working within the Alberta health system is an asset. Confidence and previous experience to reduce the learning curve is a preference.
