Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly detailed individual for the position of Food Services II that is dedicated to both high-quality work and food safety. This casual position is located at the Alberta Children's Hospital. This Food Services II position utilizes math skills, prepares complex infant feeding recipes, labels, monitors, receives, and delivers specialized infant formula, modulated infant or pediatric formulas, and human milk. Adheres to all food safety and sanitation regulations and standards established by regulating agencies and the health care facility. Performs inventory management, operates feeding preparation equipment, maintains sanitation in the feeding preparation room, performs quality improvement activities, completes temperature/sanitization records, and communicates effectively through various telecommunication modes and electronic charting systems. The position participates in training, compliance and quality improvement initiatives and fosters positive relationships with staff. They are required to participate in new hire orientation. This position completes other duties in Patient Food Services (PFS) as assigned by the supervisor. Must adhere to Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Nutrition, Food, Linen & Environmental Services (NFLES) policies and procedures always.
Description:
As a Food Service II, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas. In addition, you will perform specialized duties which may include ingredient/inventory controls and providing customer service support.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of a safe food handling certificate from an accredited food services program. Computer skill level to meet requirements of food service programs (For example, CBORD).
Additional Required Qualifications:Effective/proficient organizational skills to manage inventory, prioritize tasks, maintain accurate records and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Strong attention to detail is crucial in accurately measuring and preparing formulas, labeling containers, and maintaining accurate records. Knowledge of weights and measures, ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations used in recipe conversions. Ability to use problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues regarding product preparation, storage or delivery. Understanding and adherence to HACCP, Infection Prevention and Control, universal precautions, food safety regulations, proper hygiene practices, and sanitation procedures to maintain a safe and sterile environment when handling and preparing human milk and infant feeding products. Food Safety Alberta Certificate required. Ability to work well under pressure. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to read, write and communicate with proficiency in English. Ability to perform basic computer skills. Ability to work with accuracy in a high-pressure environment. Ability to stand, bend, and walk for the entire shift required. Ability to lift up to 46 pounds frequently required. Occasional lifting to shoulder height required. Ability to push/pull up to 250 pounds without assistance frequently required.
Preferred Qualifications:Diploma or equivalent in food and nutrition preferred. Formula/Human Milk Technician Certificate is preferred. Canadian Society of Nutrition Management membership is preferred. WHMIS training preferred. Knowledge of Epic preferred. Experience with Formula Calculator preferred. Prior experience in a role related to human milk and infant feeding products including familiarity with various types of formula, expressed human milk, donated human milk, and fortifier.
