Your Opportunity:

The Rural Addiction and Mental Health program spans across High River, Black Diamond, and Okotoks. Our program provides short-term episodic care to individuals across the lifespan with the outcome to integrate our clients back into the community. Our team consists of Family Counsellors, Community Liaison Workers, Outreach and Psychiatry who follow a stepped care approach within Addictions and Mental Health. The Family Counsellor is an advanced clinical position which provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up to clients and their families for presenting mental health and addiction concerns. You will facilitate individual and/or group therapy sessions and collaborate with clients and their families regarding their treatment outcomes. In addition, you will have the opportunity to experience live clinical and one to one supervision in your practice. As the Family Counsellor you will participate in program development and evaluation, communicate clear, practical, evidence-based diagnoses, assessment findings, plans, and make recommendations to the team, families, and other service providers. You may be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities and student supervision. There may be a requirement to support alternate locations within the portfolio based on operational needs. A demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice to enhance patient health outcomes; your ability to set realistic expectations and boundaries in the therapeutic relationship; ability to work independently; conflict resolution, critical thinking and leadership skills are all essential to this role.

Description:

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master of Social Work or Registered Psychologist with Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Active or eligible for registration with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Minimum 2 years’ experience providing assessment, treatment, and discharge across the age spectrum with mental health and addiction concerns within the last 5 years. Training and experience in individual, group, and family therapy modalities. Training and theoretical knowledge or experience with Trauma Informed Care, Attachment, and Family Systems. Competency in using the DSM V with provisional diagnosis. Advanced crisis management skills including but not limited to Suicide Risk assessments, intervention and treatment, de-escalation skills and the ability to triage the client’s wellness and utilize the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the client.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with complex child/adolescents and families with multiple barriers to wellness. Experience using performance metrics (i.e., feedback informed treatment). Training and experience in therapeutic modalities such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and/or other evidence-based modalities. Understanding of Concurrent Capable Practices. Experience providing supervision to practicum students.
