Alberta Health Services is seeking a senior operational leader for the role of Executive Director, Diagnostic Imaging – Edmonton. Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer, Diagnostic Imaging, this position provides operational leadership for the delivery, coordination, and performance of diagnostic imaging services across Edmonton. This role is accountable for oversight of acute care, community, and contracted diagnostic imaging services within a complex, multi-site environment. The Executive Director ensures alignment with provincial standards, priorities, and performance expectations while supporting integrated, patient-focused service delivery across sites and service providers. The Executive Director will lead operational strategy, performance management, and resource coordination across Edmonton. The position works in close partnership with clinical leaders, operational teams, provincial partners, and external stakeholders to achieve access, quality, workforce, and financial performance targets. This is a key leadership role focused on operational execution, system coordination, and consistent service delivery across multiple facilities and service areas.
Description:
The Executive Director, Diagnostic Imaging – Edmonton is a senior operational leadership role responsible for the performance, coordination, and integration of diagnostic imaging services across multiple sites in Edmonton. Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer, Diagnostic Imaging, the Executive Director provides leadership across acute care imaging, community imaging, and contracted service delivery. The role is accountable for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating diagnostic imaging operations across Edmonton. This includes ensuring services are delivered safely, effectively, and efficiently; supporting integration across sites and service providers; and working collaboratively with clinical and operational partners to meet access, utilization, quality, and financial targets. Key accountabilities include: Providing operational leadership and performance oversight across multiple hospitals and service areas. Leading and supporting Directors, Managers, and multidisciplinary operational teams. Developing and implementing operational strategies aligned with provincial direction and organizational priorities. Managing operating and capital budgets and ensuring effective resource utilization. Supporting integration and coordination of services across sites, programs, and external providers. Leading quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives across Edmonton. The Executive Director provides leadership to a group of Directors and operational leaders and is accountable for consistent operational standards, coordinated service delivery, and performance across a complex multi-site environment. This position requires regular presence across sites within Edmonton and collaboration with provincial teams, clinical programs, academic partners, and external stakeholders.

A degree or diploma in a health discipline, business, or a related field. Minimum 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment, including senior operational leadership experience. Demonstrated experience in: Healthcare operations management. Leading multidisciplinary teams. Budget and resource management. Managing change in complex environments. Stakeholder and partner engagement. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-site operational teams. Strong operational leadership and performance management experience. Experience managing complex service delivery environments and aligning multiple stakeholders. Proven financial stewardship, including oversight of operating and capital budgets. Ability to establish consistent operational practices and accountability frameworks across sites. Strong communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in health administration, business administration, or a related discipline. Experience in diagnostic imaging operations or a related clinical service area. Experience in a large, multi-site healthcare system.
