Alberta Health Services (AHS) is hiring Environmental Services II (Cleaner/Housekeeper). We are looking for someone who is reliable, works well on their own, takes pride in their work, and prioritize safety. Environmental II position is responsible for following cleaning and disinfecting protocols while cleaning surfaces and patient equipment in assigned areas, such as patient rooms, examination and treatment rooms, emergency rooms, operating theatres, public and patient washrooms, offices and corridors. Duties include includes clean-up of blood and body fluids, washing walls, using a ladder/step stool to change privacy cubicle curtains, routine floor care (operate scrubbers, buffers/burnishers) and removing waste (e.g. garbage, shredding, biomedical) to designated holding areas. You will have to wear personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, gowns, eye protection) for long parts of their shift while following protocols to keep yourself safe. These tasks are to be completed with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment. Environmental Services staff need to work in places that can sometimes be stressful. They must remain kind and respectful when interacting with patients and staff who may be under pressure. Shift schedules may include of day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Past and present merge in Didsbury (population approx. 5,200), a town with vintage charm. Located along the Calgary-Edmonton corridor, about 84 kilometers north of Calgary, Didsbury is roughly halfway between Calgary and Red Deer.
Description:
As an Environmental II, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with intensive or specialized cleaning within a hospital or facility associated with industrial cleaning supplies and by using powered industrial equipment. Your typical duties may include operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance, thorough washing of ceilings and windows and emptying hazardous waste. You may also provide training/orientation to Environmental staff.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs of force.
Additional Required Qualifications:To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and verbal directions in English. Ability to walk, climb ladder/step stool, squat, bend, reach in all directions (overhead work required), push/pull. Basic knowledge and operation of a computer and a smartphone. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time (e.g. Surgical and N95 Respiratory Masks, Eye Protection, Gloves, Gowns, etc.). Dependable, cooperative, customer service attitude and able to work with minimal supervision. Applications that include a cover letter and or resume will be considered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Knowledge of hospital housekeeping policy and procedures. Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting in health care environment. Customer service experience. Leadership experience such as working leader, shift lead, trainer or equivalent. For internal applicants up to date Required Learning Courses such as Move Safe, WHMIS, Code Red, etc.
