Undergraduate degree preferably in a clinical area (nursing, allied health). A combination of relevant education and experience in Healthcare and Emergency Response Planning may be considered. Master’s level educational preparation desirable. Experience in a health care field or profession desired. Professional designation and / or registration an asset. Five to ten years within a health care environment in a variety of clinical settings, including supervisory/management experience. In order to ensure Emergency/Disaster Management credibility while working with the extensive range of internal stakeholders, it is critical that the incumbent be knowledgeable of the health care system and have clinical experience, preferably in both acute and community-related health care.
Additional Required Qualifications:
In addition, the position requires a wide range of knowledge on current trends and practices in emergency planning, the ability and willingness to keep current in a fast-growing industry and the ability to work efficiently under extremely stressful conditions. Other required experience, knowledge and skills: Experience in the preparation and delivery of educational/training programs preferred, including exercises. Experience in emergency management within health care, government or industry desirable. Demonstrated proficiency in the preparation of written reports and papers. Demonstrated ability to lead, directly or indirectly, multidisciplinary project teams. Required Emergency/Disaster Management courses &/or experience to be obtained within 6 months of hiring: Basic Emergency Management. Incident Command System Level 100 & 200. Exercise Design. Business Continuity Management. Public Safety Canada CBRN Awareness Course or equivalent CBRN/Hazmat certification. University of Arizona Basic HazMat Life Support Course for health professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Critical thinking and understanding. Knowledge of the theoretical underpinnings of the basic emergency/disaster management set of core competencies, and their limitations in terms of how they should be applied. Be familiar with emergency management mitigation, emergency response and recovery plans and be able to write a complete set of plans for a site, service or other functional area. Have sufficient knowledge of legislation, regulation and codes that impact emergency planning and response.
