Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Central Zone Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) Manager, the Rural MDRD Educator works collaboratively with site MDRD managers and staff as a resource and mentor for staff in the MDRD through annual education/site visits & practice audits facilitated through the requesting site manager to the central zone manager for coordination. The educator provides direction and feedback to staff on required processes, and adherence to reprocessing standards to in scope employees within the MDRD. This role will support rural sites within central zone which provide medical device reprocessing services, and assist in associated MDRD redevelopment projects, surgical program expansion, and site quality initiatives. The allocation of hospitals in which this role supports will be determined in consideration of the successful applicants, geographical locations, and the services/activity each area supports.
Description:
Reporting to the Central Zone MDRD Manager, MDRD Educator for Central Zone provides leadership in planning, delivery and evaluation of educational and training activities surgical processing staff in Central Zone Rural Medical Device Reprocessing Departments. The roles associated with this position include but are not limited to orientation, compulsory and continuing education as per CSA Standards, clinical development, maintenance of training competencies for surgical processors and working in partnership with post-secondary programs for the training and orientation of students, identification of barriers and solutions for training of staff responsible for sterile reprocessing of Medical Devices in decentralized areas. The Educator performs ongoing competency assessment of the Rural Surgical Processors in the area of cleaning, disassembly, assembly, sterilization of surgical instruments and case carts, and is responsible for delivery of programs based on identified needs which includes continued competencies, quality improvements and organizational objectives in consultation with local site managers, the Central Zone MDR Manager, and the Central Zone Rural MDR Coordinator.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of a medical device reprocessing program including at least 400hrs as a practicum in an active care hospital setting. IAHCSMM or CSA certification required. Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a surgical processor in a large acute care setting. Excellent teaching and communication skills. Advance training or professional development in adult education.
