Completion of recognized post-secondary program in a health or education related field. Active or eligible for registration with applicable regulatory body.
Additional Required Qualifications:Experienced Certified Respiratory Educator with a minimum of 5 in the past 8 years working in a healthcare setting that includes providing respiratory education and coaching. Current knowledge, skills, and proficiency in approaches with adults that enhance patient care, health promotion, and self-management; providing education on topics including COPD, chronic cough and asthma disease processes, trigger identification and avoidance, medication management, delivery device review and teaching on optimal use, smoking reduction counseling, and self-management support that includes individualized respiratory care plans, public speaking, and group education; and understanding significance of spirometry and other testing in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions. Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with clients, physicians, management, and team members. Must be able to problem solve and use considerable independent judgment and initiative in providing evidence-based care and recommendations that follow CTS guidelines in collaboration with physicians and other care providers.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with the following: working with culturally diverse and vulnerable populations; public speaking and group facilitation; performing chronic cough assessments; and coordinating patient access to biologic medications. Certified Tobacco Educator designation. Additional training in behavioral change, health coaching, and chronic disease management principles and practices. Clinical experience using Connect Care.
