Your Opportunity:

The Diagnostic Sonographer I - Peds Cardiac Care is responsible for performing Pediatric and Fetal Echocardiographic examinations. Plays an integral role in the echocardiographic diagnostic process in the Cardiology Department. Will be required to travel by air and/or ground transportation to work at outreach clinics that our Pediatric Cardiology program supports.


As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registration may be considered for designations not offered by Sonography Canada.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a CMA accredited training program for Echocardiography. Demonstrated proficient organizational, technical, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills required. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, to work effectively both independently and within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations required. Demonstrated interest in professional growth required. Demonstrated ability in the areas of perception, initiative, judgement and concern for detail and accuracy required. Demonstrated ability in the use of tact, courtesy and professionalism with patients, staff and physicians required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Pediatric Echocardiography is preferred.
