Diagnostic Sonographer I
Your Opportunity:
The Diagnostic Sonographer I position at Alberta Children’s Hospital, operates in the specialized, highly technical environment of Ultrasound. The Sonographer I under limited supervision, assesses patients, analyzes and interprets diagnostic data, and provides information to the Radiologist to assist in diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management. Your work may include a variety of procedures such as general and pediatric vascular Ultrasound, as well as specialized imaging such as Bowel, Hip, Spine, Brain and Intussusception diagnosing as required. These services are performed in an effective efficient and safe manner. As a member of the Diagnostic Imaging team this position is responsible for working all shifts and on-call as assigned.
Description:
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Valid membership from Sonography Canada and/or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required. Must be able at times to work alone and be able to take direction remotely from a Radiologist.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent Pediatric Ultrasound experience in a tertiary hospital setting preferred. Demonstrated excellent English verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a demanding, dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team member in a multidisciplinary environment.
