Your Opportunity:

You’re a detail-oriented diagnostic sonographer with keen visual discernment and a reassuring bedside manner. Able to move between different diagnostic imaging procedures, you can provide high quality patient care and produce quality images that support physicians and health professionals in making accurate diagnoses, monitoring health conditions, or providing real-time guidance during medical procedures. Alberta Health Services (AHS) needs someone like you to join our dynamic team at the Peter Lougheed Centre, a centre of excellence for hematology, respiratory, vascular surgery, and general surgery, addictions and mental health located in Northeast Calgary. As a Diagnostic Sonographer on our team, you will support a safe and efficient patient-and family-centered care experience. As part of an interdisciplinary Diagnostic Imaging Services team, this position takes a variety of ultrasound images on various organs, monitoring health conditions. The Diagnostic Sonographer in this role provides imaging guidance for women's health procedures in the Operating Room and supports Interventional Radiologists while performing Ultrasound-guided procedures. Description:

As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to provide imaging guidance for women's health procedures in the Operating Room. Ability to support Interventional Radiologists while performing Ultrasound-guided procedures. Ability to work independently and efficiently supporting a very busy Emergency Department on weekends, evenings and on-call. Should be able to complete a scan interview as part of the hiring process. Demonstrated proficient organizational, technical, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills required. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Vascular certification. Working knowledge of EPIC. Maternal Fetal Medicine experience. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
