Your Opportunity:

Indigenous Mental Health (IMH) is an Indigenous trauma-therapy-focused clinic which offers holistic, wraparound counselling to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals and families. The goal of IMH is to provide access to counselling that is safe, respectful of cultural beliefs and provides integrated care. IMH is made up of an interdisciplinary team. Psychiatric support is provided by a psychiatric nurse, allied health professionals, social workers, and specialists. Connection to traditional FNMI healing and cultural services is supported by the Elder/Traditional Wellness Coordinator through Elbow River Healing Lodge (ERHL). Social work/outreach, advocate for clients and staff help clients with crisis support, resource navigation, case management, and advocacy. The vision of IMH is to promote healthy Indigenous wellbeing that is connected and empowered. The Community Liaison Worker will have familiarity and work comfortably in addressing diverse social determinants of health, substance use, intergenerational trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and systemic factors that perpetuate poverty, homelessness, and toxic stress. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience and knowledge of the Indigenous population. The position is located out of the Indigenous Mental Health at the Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre, which is mostly on-site, but also has some outreach components. The ideal candidate will have the responsibility of carrying a caseload.

Description:

As a Community Liaison Worker (CLW), you will provide services to clients seeking Mental Health assistance. You will provide one-to-one support to a diverse client population in a variety of Mental Health settings according to the client's individual service plan, and/or treatment plan in accordance with the client-centered approach. You will participate in assessments to determine access barriers and the support needs for clients accessing Mental health services. You will focus on assistance with collaboration and service coordination with additional support/resource modeling in a variety of settings. A working knowledge of mental health issues is required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with applicable professional association or college. Minimum two years' experience working within Mental Health. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS - HCP). Possession of a valid driver's licence and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.

Additional Required Qualifications:

3 years of experience working with Indigenous populations with complex health needs, system barriers, and intergenerational and complex trauma. Knowledge of resources specific to Indigenous populations. Established relationships with Indigenous serving agencies, Nations, and supports in Calgary and the surrounding area. Knowledge in integrated care relevant to Indigenous experiences, systems, and theories. A respect for indigenous culture, history, traditions, medicines, and healing approaches. An understanding of the colonial history of Canada regarding indigenous populations. An understanding of intergenerational trauma and the effects on the indigenous populations in Canada. Understanding and training with Anti-oppressive practice, Stages of Change, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Trauma Informed Care. Strong communication skills with the ability to relay patient information to other healthcare providers in a timely, concise, and accurate manner to facilitate treatment decisions. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Comprehension of case management and its implementation within an inter-disciplinary team. Experience providing crisis counselling, mediation, and conflict resolution strategies. Experience in advocating for clients by coordinating the efforts of all internal and external parties to meet client and family needs.
