Your Opportunity:

As the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Instructor at Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH), you will have the opportunity to provide leadership in the planning, co-ordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities for Respiratory Therapy staff, including orientation, compulsory educational programs, clinical development, certifications, and continuing education. The specific focus of the role is dependent on the educational needs and practice requirements of Respiratory Therapy Department at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and in collaboration with the other Calgary Urban centers in relation to neonatal and pediatric care. In addition to the diagnostic and therapeutic care duties of a Respiratory Therapist I and II, and as part of the RT leadership team, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following areas: Use of respiratory therapy processes i.e., assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation. Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals. Leadership skills. Ability to promote the change process. Application and promotion of problem solving and creative thinking. Ability to evaluate development of staff and provide meaningful feedback. Prioritize and meet competing demands/requirements of setting. Commitment to own professional development and maintain professional competency. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Description:

As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department, as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education. You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years RRT experience in a tertiary care facility. Minimum of 3 years current experience in Pediatric Critical Care. Minimum of 3 years current experience in Neonatal Critical Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACH experience. Education and/or experience in change management. Education and/or experience in simulation training. Experience in educational program design, delivery, and measurement of learning outcomes. Multi-disciplinary committee membership within the last 2 years. NRP certification. PALS certification. BCLS-HCP Instructor credentials. Instructor of advanced life support program (eg. PALS, NRP)
