Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Royal Alexandra Hospital Operative Services (DTC OR, GOR, & OSC), EZ Centralized Programming, EZ Surgical Oversight Lead & EZ Contracted Surgical Facilities (CSF) Programs, the Patient Safety Consultant Ensuring the Quality Assurance Committee structure is supported to address requests for Quality Assurance reviews and other Section 9 protected activities. Provide consultation with clinical operations to assist in determining whether a quality assurance review is required, or the identification of an alternate need. Assist Chairs of Quality Assurance Committees around required processes such as maintaining Terms of Reference, quality assurance review acceptance, completion and securing quality assurance document storage to meet legislative requirements. Lead or provide advice to the quality assurance review teams that are conducting reviews as required by operational leadership. Interacting with the reporting system regularly to identify and report on trends and hazards at a system level. Provide reports to the executive on event reporting trending. Interact with leadership when serious events are reported to support the initial notification process. Reviewing of Information in reporting system to support issue identification and analysis. Assist in determining when formal safety communications (alerts, advisories) are required. Assists in the process of developing and disseminating these communications. Act as an advisory capacity to leadership on safety policies, procedures and guidelines for the management of serious adverse events.

Description:

Through quality reviews, reviews of safety incidents to identify trends and working with departments to change practice based on findings, the consultant is in a position to influence overall system awareness of 'system thinking', safety risks, hazards and best practices and therefore improve system performance, surveillance and vigilance across the spectrum of care.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in a clinical area (nursing or allied health discipline) or related area and appropriate license or other recognized designation. -Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in a health related or business administration discipline required, in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Expertise in Quality Assurance Committee structures and Quality reviews. Documented evidence of formal training in quality improvement Key requirements include strong knowledge of statistical and data analysis, demand capacity balancing, project management and team facilitation. Experience in deploying end-to-end improvements with significant results. Excellence in transferable/"soft" skills, including communication, teamwork and problem solving required. Proven coaching and mentorship skills required as well as excellent conflict resolution and communication skills. Proficiency in Visio, Excel, Access, Power Point, Word, and QI Macros is desirable.

Extensive knowledge of the client group / function supported and best practices applicable to the Patient Safety Division. Effective communicator with strong organization skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leading multi-stakeholder change initiatives to achieve a strategic objective (cost; quality; lead time).
