Your Opportunity:

Here at Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), it is our goal to be a leader in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care, all on a foundation of world-class research. We are currently accepting applications for a Budget Coordinator to join our Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. This full-time position is for approximately 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to the length of grant funding.

Description:

As a member of the Arthur Child CRU Finance Team, the Budget Coordinator is responsible for preparing, maintaining, negotiating, and finalizing clinical trial study budgets and acts as the primary liaison between Arthur Child CRU and pharmaceutical sponsors, clinical research organizations, or funding agencies. This position works closely with the Trial Launch Team, vendors, AHS and CCA departments, study teams, and Principal Investigators. This position involves analyzing study protocols, assessing resource requirements, and performing timely and accurate budget review for submission and negotiation with sponsors or funding agencies. Other responsibilities include maintaining and updating budget trackers, internal costing tools and templates, and communicating with management and study teams on budget status. The Budget Coordinator will also review protocol amendments and assess impact on the study budget and negotiate with the sponsors/funding agencies accordingly. The Budget Coordinator works closely with AHS Finance, and may assist with execution of agreements, creating and updating study budgets in the clinical trial management system, processing study invoiceables, study close-out account reconciliation, and responding to billing queries related to study budgets.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (accounting or business administration, healthcare or research). Experience in budgets and/or contracts negotiation in a research or academic environment is essential.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A team player with strong attention to detail, superior organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects and work independently in a fast-paced setting to meet tight timelines, advanced communication skills, and system competencies in Microsoft Office Suite. Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical trials or 3 years of relevant experience in a research/healthcare setting. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to manage finances in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse and complex issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience or familiarity with contracts and/or budget development in a clinical trials/research/grant funding environment is a major asset. Knowledge of medical tests and procedures. Experience working with pharmaceutical sponsor, clinical research organization or in an academic oncology medical centre.
