Assistant Head Nurse - Quality Improvement Consultant
Your Opportunity:
As a leader in the development and promotion of best practices in quality improvement and patient safety, the Assistant Head Nurse - Emergency Department (ED) Quality Improvement (QI) Consultant is responsible for developing, coordinating, and facilitating quality improvement services for the Emergency Department (ED). Collaborating with stakeholders, the QI Consultant participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of QI processes and projects based on data collection and analysis. Working cooperatively with front-line interdisciplinary team members and ED management, the QI Consultant fosters a shared culture of quality and safety, aligning QI efforts with AHS goals and patient needs. The QI Consultant collects, analyzes, and interprets data related to patient outcomes, processes, and safety to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Effective methods for communicating process and flow improvements to front-line staff are identified, facilitating knowledge sharing and articulating the impact of QI initiatives on staff and patients. As a key member of the ED leadership team and an expert in change management, the QI Consultant promotes a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing patient feedback and applying common values to problem-solving. This role requires strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills to drive quality improvement initiatives and enhance patient care outcomes.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum three (3) years recent emergency department clinical experience required. Working knowledge of clinical informatics (Connect Care). Must be proficient with computer systems, including Microsoft Office and Visio. Experience and knowledge in quality improvement, methodology, process analysis, group facilitation, outcome/evaluation strategies and patient safety. Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Advanced communication and leadership skills. Knowledge of adult teaching and learning strategies and skills along with resource development. Ability to deal with stressful situations in a dynamic environment. Organizational and interpersonal/conflict management skills. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, including constant walking, standing, bending, sitting, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of change management methodology. Equivalent to AHS Yellow Belt and/or Green Belt Certification preferred. Experience with Accreditation support preferred.
