Assistant Head Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Care Manager, the AHN is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of health status and co-coordinating of resident care activities in the LTC setting. Your knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, inter-professional teams, administrators and policy makers. Responsibilities: Coordinates safe and seamless professional care across the continuum on the nursing unit. Assuming responsibility for the day-to-day staffing needs and assign staff accordingly, for resident care as required. Ensuring accurate and timely communication with the multidisciplinary team members including information related to changes to resident status, communicating changes in plan of care and Physician orders to team members. Co-coordinating admissions, discharges and transfers. Participating in multidisciplinary conferences to co-ordinate and prioritize resident care activities. Participating in quality improvement and risk management activities related to care and service provision to the residents. Identifying and communicating issues requiring follow-up by the Care Manager. Promoting a good relationship between staff, residents, family members, managers, physicians, outside agencies and the public. Participating in staff development and identification of staff education needs. Assisting in setting objectives, planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and service delivery on the care on the unit with the standards, policies and procedures of the unit and nursing department. Assures the accurate and timely completion of the RAI/MDS assessment and care planning. Assures staff adherence to applicable policies and procedures. Ensures cost effective and cost-efficient use of resources.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:5 years experience in a LTC setting. Experience working with RAI including assessment, outputs and quality indicators. Experience with Care Planning. Knowledge of Connect Care and Microsoft Office. Has a proven ability to work harmoniously within an interdisciplinary team. Ability to function independently as well as on a team. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and to delegate responsibility. Ability to organize time and resources effectively. Strong leadership qualities. Strong communication skills. Has a proven ability to use sound professional judgment and initiative. Has the ability to plan, organize and co-ordinate effectively. A commitment to mentoring others. Solid understanding of the CCHSS, Accommodation Standards and experience with the audits.
Preferred Qualifications:BScN desirable. Connect Care education would be an asset. Specifically, Continuing Care Facility Living Nurse and Care Planning Badge.
