Your Opportunity:
The Clinical Development Nurse (CDN) is a member of the Edmonton Zone Public Health (PH) team working in a nursing leadership role engaged in a wide range of activities to support the delivery of sexual assault care. The CDN’s responsibilities encompass various aspects of nursing practice, education, and community engagement. This position requires that you: Support the program and manager by providing clinical expertise and input regarding staff and program development. Act as a clinical resource and mentor for staff, complete clinical practice evaluations, coordinate and lead staff orientation, and ongoing education Facilitate change, possess conflict resolution skills. Use critical thinking with a solutions focus and organizational skills to support daily operations and program planning/delivery/evaluation. Have the ability to work longer than 7.75 hours on a regular basis to ensure evidence chain of custody and continuity of care. Carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3-5 years of recent experience working in an area that provides medical and/or forensic sexual assault care or other related area. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) course from an accredited institution. Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and change management; experience in interdisciplinary teamwork and partnership development, strong written and oral communication. Expertise in adult teaching and learning principles to support staff orientation and education. Knowledge, understanding & demonstrated application of the social determinants of health & health promotion strategies. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e., ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, 2SLGBTQIA+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.) Other skills and experience relevant to Public Health may be considered. Must be able to perform within established program parameters including: Ability to work in a loud, chaotic, busy emergency rooms with patients and families. Working knowledge of computer applications, data collection/analysis, Microsoft Office Suite. Active driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and ability to drive in all inclement weather conditions and hours of day.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) strongly preferred. International Association of Forensic Nursing SANE – Adult certification. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing. Nursing experience in public health, emergency departments, women’s or mental health. Health promotion & harm reduction experience. Indigenous cultural and sensitivity training.
