Your Opportunity:
The goal of The Red Thread Gift Shop Program is two-fold. We aim to be an oasis in the hospital environment where patients, visitors and staff come for a compassionate break in their day. Additionally, our profits provide an annual donation back to the sites to support patient care and comfort initiatives. This position provides operational direction to 120+ volunteers to support the operation of the 2 Red Thread Gift Shops. The key responsibilities of this role are: Recruiting and scheduling 120+ volunteers between 2 stores and back-filling shifts when cancelations occur to prevent store closures. Ensuring a sufficient number of volunteers are trained in multiple retail specialties (Customer Service/Cashier, Finance, Stockroom/Receiving, Merchandising & Buying/Ordering). Ensuring that all daily, weekly and monthly tasks are assigned to and completed by volunteers. In the event of cancellations, reassigning tasks to alternate volunteers where possible. In the absence of qualified volunteers, steps in and completes tasks to ensure operations run smoothly. Following up with any behaviours that do not meet AHS, Volunteer Resources or Red Thread program expectation – provides coaching and retraining as appropriate. Working with retail volunteers requires excellent skills in communication, organization, change management and engagement. Additionally, to lead retail volunteers, the successful candidate will themselves need strong retail skills including customer service, merchandising, inventory management, ordering and finance. Strong computer-based skills are essential.

Some post-secondary education.
Additional Required Qualifications:Some completed post-secondary courses in business, retail management, volunteer management, human resources, human services or creative/visual arts. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership role in a clothing or giftware retail environment (key holder, team lead, supervisor/manager). Minimum 3 years’ experience managing volunteers and/or paid staff. Minimum 250 volunteer hours within the past 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with inventory management/point-of-sale systems, preferably L-BOSS. Experience with volunteer management systems, preferably Better Impact. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint).
