This position is part of Recovery Alberta's Mental Health & Addiction Services: Child, Youth, & Family team in Medicine Hat. The Addictions Counselor III (AC) works as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. The AC collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to deliver patient centered, trauma-informed care. Primary duties in this role are to provide assessment and treatment services for youth clients and their families, in-clinic as well as in community. Provide support, assessment, counselling and referral for youth clients and families preparing to seek help accessing, being admitted to, and discharged from PChAD (Protection of Children Abusing Drugs) Protective Safe Houses. Supporting families and transitioning youth from PChAD into voluntary services and other follow-up services are also included within this role. Participation in information, prevention and promotion services is also a function of this position. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years in the last 5 years of experience in addictions counselling and experience working with youth and families. Knowledge of evidence informed treatment practices for addiction as well as concurrent disorders. Motivational Interviewing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Suicide Intervention Training, NVCI, CPR, First Aid. Competency in Connect Care.
