Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:The successful applicant to this position will have a sound knowledge of addiction and several years of experience in addiction and mental health counselling (individual and group therapy). Experience with presentations and facilitating psycho-educational sessions. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary team model. A demonstrated ability to work within an integrated team approach. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references. Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification within 3 months of hire. Knowledge of assessment techniques in determining suicide risk.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working as an Addiction Counsellor in an adult residential addiction treatment setting.
