Description:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager - PCU Unit 27 and Psych Consult Liaison facilitates the day to day clinical and operational needs of the acute inpatient mental health/psychiatric units. This position will provide daily support to the multidisciplinary team regarding decision making that will enhance patient care. The Unit Manager (UM) facilitates a collaborative approach to patient care. The UM exemplifies a leadership role within the multidisciplinary team by encouraging a biopsychosocial approach to patient care. The UM will participate in the planning, implementation and assessment of patient care with a focus on the nursing standards of care. The UM will assist with the implementation of changes to structure, process and procedures in order to achieve desirable patient outcomes. The UM will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, and all stakeholders to ensure appropriate resources are utilized across the care continuum. There must be a willingness to assist in program planning and quality improvement projects.

Required Qualifications:

Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA or CRPNA). Graduation from a recognized nursing education program. Knowledge and understanding of the mental health continuum required. Experience with crisis interventions, substance abuse issues, personality disorders, etc. is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous management experience preferred. Involved in Quality Improvement projects.
