Unit Manager
Your Opportunity:
The Unit Manager is a key leadership role and will oversee one or more of the following areas in GI outpatient medicine: The Forzani & MacPhail Colon Cancer Screening Centre (CCSC). Calgary Gastroenterology Central Access and Triage (GI CAT). FMC Endoscopy (ENDO). Gastroenterology (GI) and Hepatology (HEP) Clinics and Area 2 in University of Calgary Medical Clinics (UCMC). Microbial therapy Clinic (MT). This Unit Manager position has a variety of direct reports which include disciplines such as Nurse Clinicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Admin support, service aides and MRDR re-processors. Through clinical leadership, mentoring, and coaching of staff, the Unit Manager ensures excellent patient and family centered care. The roles and responsibilities overall include the effective and efficient management of human, material and financial resources, staff engagement, and staff satisfaction. Furthermore, there is an expectation to provide leadership and demonstrate the organizational values of AHS to the multi-disciplinary team on these areas and maintain open and timely communication with the multidisciplinary team and the Patient Care Manager. The Unit Manager reports to the Manager of Medical Outpatients: Colon Cancer Screening Centre, Endoscopy, GI, Hepatology, GI CAT, MT and Dental Clinic.
Description:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supporting facilitation and promotion of optimal and safe flow for referrals, patients, and procedures. Primarily responsible for day-to-day activity and needs of the areas. Primarily responsible for unit staffing, timely staff recruitment, performance coaching including performance reviews and involvement in performance management. Knowledgeable clinical resource for area and its multi-disciplinary team members in support of day-to-day operations and AHS initiatives. Mentorship of unit staff for benefit of their development and optimal patient care. Facilitates and supports coordination, communication and problem solving with multi-disciplinary team members and Patient Care Manager for effective patient and family centered care.

A minimum of Baccalaureate Degree. Graduate of a recognized professional health program required. Current College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or health profession registration required. A minimum of 3 years in a formal or informal leadership role within healthcare.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Effective communicator. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and working relationships with stakeholders. Keen understanding of IPC requirements as well as Canadian Standards group (CSA) standards for reprocessing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a unit manager role in acute care or ambulatory medicine for at least 2 years. Previous experience in Gastroenterology areas such as CCSC, GI CAT or Endoscopy. Previous experience of at least two years in a nurse clinician/charge nurse one of these areas. Completion of change management courses (i.e. Prosci, AIW, Six Sigma).
