Your Opportunity:

The Manager provides daily direct inspired leadership and clinical oversight to Units 61 and 62 at the RAH site. Unit assignments within this portfolio are subject to change as service requirements evolve. Applying the best evidence-informed practice and using a continuous quality improvement approach the Manager ensures that services delivered by the team(s) meet the needs of service users and stakeholders. The Manager will have an active relationship with physicians, service users and other invested parties to continually gauge the perception of the quality of services provided. As such the Manager is the first point of contact for complaints and compliments regarding the service. It is imperative that the Manager establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with other program areas that clients may encounter, to facilitate seamless and continuous care. He/she will also use information from many sources to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of how resources are being utilized and will make changes within his/her scope to improve. As the Manager of units within a diverse acute and/or tertiary care site, the Manager is expected to work collaboratively in an integrated and seamless manner with other clinical and administrative programs and services at the site. While not responsible for the overall budget of the program, the Manager is expected to have an awareness of expenditures and cost drivers that have an impact on the budget and to communicate this to the Program Manager/BAS.

Description:

The Manager will provide coaching and assist in the delivery of competency-based education related to the delivery of three streams of service: mental health, addictions and concurrent disorders. The Manager will have the opportunity to recruit highly skilled and committed staff as well as oversee the daily operations of the acute care team. A working knowledge of the Collective Agreements (HSAA, AUPE and UNA) is required, as is an ability to deal effectively with performance issues. The Manager will also be responsible for scheduling employees, approving vacations and reinforcing the importance of staff attendance, reliability and punctuality. The Manager is ultimately responsible for creating the culture for the acute care team. This requires ensuring that there are regular opportunities to give staff feedback both individually and as a group and to help set objectives which support both their individual goals and the goals of the Mental Health and Addiction and Program.

Required Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in a health-related field. Registration with professional association/college as appropriate. Minimum of 5 years of front-line experience with demonstrated informal leadership competencies (eg. participation on committees/projects, leading peers, consulting to management, conducting education, sitting on external boards, involvement with professional association etc.). Preference will be given to candidates with a nursing background. Demonstrated competency in leading self, engaging others, achieving results, building relationships/coalitions and championing system change.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience within the Mental Health and Addiction portfolio an asset. Knowledge and experience within acute medicine is also an asset.
