Your Opportunity:

This leadership position is supporting Unit 22, Day Surgery; Unit 23, Surgical Short Stay; and Unit 17, Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC); all fast-paced environments representing the full spectrum of care and support for diverse surgical patient populations. The areas provide care to all surgical specialties, focusing on procedures with a length of stay up to 48 hours as well as the education and preparation of all surgical patients in the PAC department. The Unit Manager provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and direction to multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient and high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include the management of human, material, and financial resources as well as staff scheduling, staff education, annual performance reviews and resolution of patient, family and staff concerns. As the Unit Manager of these teams, you will require advanced skills in the following areas: critical thinking, communication, teamwork, prioritization, time management, advocacy, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Description:

As a member of the management team, the Unit Manager will be required to assist in development of strategic plans, collaborate with teams to determine priorities, support quality improvement initiatives and develop and implement operational plans while facilitating change management. The role requires a motivated leader with proficient communication skills including negotiation and conflict management. All activities are in support of the vision, mission and strategic plans of AHS – Acute Care Alberta and goals across both the surgical portfolio and Peter Lougheed Centre.

Required Qualifications:

PA minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in nursing or other healthcare field plus appropriate licenses and designations. Demonstrated leadership ability in complex health care systems. Demonstrated ability to operate within a team environment and foster collaborative partnerships. Demonstrated leadership and participation in quality improvement, project management or patient safety. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, motivating and teaching staff. Previous experience in a management and/or leadership position within health care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent. Completion of leadership development, quality improvement certification (AIW Yellow Belt/Green Belt, or other) and Change Management certification (PROSCI or other) courses in the past 3 years. Previous human, financial, and physical resource management experience in a leadership position in AHS. Previous experience in leading/supporting quality improvement projects. 5 years’ recent experience in the acute care setting.
