Your Opportunity:

The North Zone Addiction and Mental Health team has an exciting leadership opportunity available in St Paul. The Unit Manager is responsible for the day to day management of several teams including the Inpatient Psychiatry unit and Crisis Response Team at St Therese Healthcare Centre, as well as the Assertive Outreach and Community Treatment programs. Position will work out of the STHCC in St Paul.


Reporting to the Director of Addiction and Mental Health, the Unit Manager is accountable for the operational leadership of assigned programs, as well as the delivery of high quality, accessible, patient and family focused, sustainable services. This includes fostering a culture of high quality collaborative care and continuous improvement, ensuring the effective deployment of assigned resources, and contributing to and implementing the operational plan. The incumbent uses established protocols and linkages for service delivery, develops and maintains internal capacity and skill set to meet service needs, provides management and leadership to multi-disciplinary teams, and builds/maintains solid working relationship within AHS, as well as with community partners to achieve the goals of this position. The incumbent is an active member of the North Zone Addiction and Mental Health management team, and represents regional interests at assigned forums. The incumbent is responsible for managing human resource processes and issues, and conducting budget/financial processes.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in a relevant regulated health related profession. Registration with the appropriate professional college in the Province of Alberta. Leadership experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of five years recent and relevant clinical and/or supervisory and/or leadership experience in the areas of addiction, concurrent disorders, mental health and mental illness. Experience in working in a management role and/ or in the supervision of personnel with demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills and expertise. Demonstrated strong clinical knowledge and skills in the areas of addiction, mental health and mental illness, along with consistent efforts to maintain a high quality of client focused care and service. Demonstrated success in providing services in inpatient/community/rural/remote settings. Demonstrated experience in program development and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to manage the budget for program area. Ability to lead front line staff in the analysis and resolution of challenging client care issues. Addresses staffing issues as they pertain to clinical functioning. Effective interpersonal relationship building skills, including conflict resolution. Strong problem solving and decision making skills. Crisis management and emergency response skills. Organization, planning, program, protocol, procedure development and implementation skills. Accurate computer skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet). Class 5 driver's license or non GDL.

Preferred Qualifications:

Change management and/or project management training.
